The 27 year-old from Wollongong, NSW became the first Australian ever to win the coveted premier class in international racing. This program traces the excitement of the 1987 season and Gardner's amazing progression to world champion, it is filmed entirely from his point of view and shares the joy, tension, pain and humor of the longest and toughest season on record. For Wayne the season held many highlights. His extraordinary wins in Austria, Yugoslavia, and Brazil, together with the disappointments of Holland and Great Britain. All are part of this documentary in addition to Japan, six countries across Europe, Gardner's home in Monte Carlo and both final races in South America.
