A ten-year-old fairytale came true for Wayne Gardner when he clinched the World 500cc Motorcycle Championship with a commanding win in the Brazilian Grand Prix on September 27th 1987. The 27 year-old from Wollongong, NSW became the first Australian ever to win the coveted premier class in international racing.
